BlackBerry the one time giant in the mobile market had considerable market share and growth in the global market for the Smartphone’s. But off late the Canadian Handset maker company is unable to keep the same pace and has shown drop in the sales, and the resultant loss in revenue. As the reported loss being as high as 4.4 billion dollars in the single quarter Q3, with substantial drop in the growth rate. And now the present Wall Street journal report has revealed that the company has shelved the earlier plan of launching two new low cost mobile phones that were coded as Café and Kopi. The report filed by the Blackberry’s US Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Filed the decision of the company’s plan of deviation from the launch of new low cost devices planned earlier. The report also proclaimed that the company has arrived at a decision of cancellation of the plan of launching these two devices to mitigate the inventory risk. The report also said that the timing of the anticipated launch was not clear.
The company official sources have also repotted further that the making of the low cost Blackberry phones will be taken over by Foxconn. Foxconn is the Hong Kong listed unit of the Taiwan’s Foxconn shall initially launch their low cost device in Indonesia and other growing markets. The first phone targeted to compete in the market by April 2014 and shall now be named Jakarta. Though the quarterly performance of BlackBerry was pathetic and unsatisfactory, the share prices boomed due to the publicity of this news of Foxconn handset deal.
As per the report Blackberry continues to be in the field of its high cost mobile phones, and is currently working on launching of Ontario and the Windermere. This clearly shows that BlackBerry still continues to give weight-age to its top order smartphones.The company may resort to the populist gimmicks of the market, lowering the prices of the handsets BB10 and the BB7 OS. Along with more incentives shall be rolled out to their operators and the distributors.
